SCA Quarterly Newsletter
Check Out the Growth at Spark!
Learning, growing, and exploring is in full swing at the studio!
by Kevin James on 2/21/23
This is the first of many newsletters we’ll send out on a quarterly basis moving forward to highlight exciting things happening at SCA! We at Spark Christian Academy want to thank all our families, partners, donors, and supporters for a successful first 6 months! When we look over the past half year, it’s amazing to reflect on the things God has done and continues to do through this academy.
THIS QUARTER’S
TOP STORIES
Spark’s first official day was August 15, 2022. Since that day, the heroes have done so much!
Drafting and amending their own studio contract
Earning core skills badges for subject mastery
Learning how to set personal goals
Implemented worship and prayer time
Resolving conflict through expressing feelings and reasoning through “peace table’ conversations
Learning studio maintenance responsibilities like sweeping, cleaning dishes, watering the LettuceGrow, taking out the trash, etc.
Thursday Bike Day!
Through this and much more, the heroes are fostering a love of learning, curiosity, and personal ownership. They are figuring out their passions, talents, and gifts. They are learning self-discipline, drive, and confidence. Also, they are becoming aware of their actions and how they affect others and the environment around them. We love being able to guide this special group, so each can fulfill their own God-given purpose.
We’ve added some new faces!
Welcome to our new heroes Julia and Roz! Both have joined in and added their own spark to the group of young learners as they bring their own interests and talents to the studio!
Welcome to our new guide, Ms. Leeann! Miss Leeann came to Spark with a wealth of knowledge and wisdom in entrepreneurship and camp ministry. All the heroes love Ms. Leeann!
Lip Dub Video!
The heroes worked together to pick a song and choreograph a music video to submit to a global Acton Academy film festival competition. They learned and refined skills like compromising, leadership, communication, production, time management, and much more…
E-Ship!
The Entrepreneurship Quest consisted of the heroes determining their ideal business, budgeting startup costs, ordering supplies, producing inventory, drafting a pitch to consumers, constructing a booth, and holding a business fair for friends and family! They will take their learnings from this quest and apply them to a community business fair later this calendar year!
Architecture!
The heroes paired up for this quest and worked together to build a scale model of their dream school! They learned how to develop blueprints, measure, convert to model scale, among countless other skills. They also took a field trip to IKEA for inspiration and to learn about pricing. You’ll read more about the field trip below!
SCA’s Lip Dub video was submitted among all other peer Acton Academies across the world to be judged and Spark came out on top! What an amazing accomplishment for these heroes on their first ever quest! The judging was performed by Acton Academy founders and owners.
Highfield Discovery Garden!
The heroes got to explore the outdoors and some really cool play equipment fostering curiosity and imagination!
Noah’s Ark!
We ventured down to Williamstown, KY to experience the Ark! The heroes checked out the sheer size of the Ark, its living quarters for both animals and Noah’s family, walked the zoo, and learned a ton! Many people complimented the heroes about their Bible knowledge and their behavior!
Kinman Farm!
The heroes got to explore a tractor, ride a hay wagon, and pick some pumpkins while enjoying the fall weather!
Miami Whitewater Park!
During this winter field trip, the heroes got to play outside, learn about the local ecosystem and animals, and topped it off with some hot cocoa!
IKEA!
At IKEA, the heroes came with their dream school in mind! They explored the store for inspiration and learned about room functionality and comfort. They were also very surprised by the cost of things!!! 🙂
A special thank you to Ms. Jess, our parent photographer extraordinaire, all our awesome parents for helping out with classroom needs and parties, Church on Fire for their hospitality and support, and above all else, glory to God! Hallelujah!
