Sara James is a lifelong learner and innovative educator with a passion for creating meaningful, real-world education that helps young people discover their purpose. After 11 years in public education—serving in Loveland City Schools, Great Oaks, and Southwest Local—Sara was called to launch Spark Christian Academy to give her own children, and others like them, a school experience rooted in curiosity, character, faith, and real-life readiness.
She believes all children are uniquely gifted by God, and that education should prepare them to use those gifts to make a positive impact in the world. Especially for those who don’t “fit the mold” of traditional school, Spark offers a place where every learner is seen, supported, and reminded that they were made for a purpose.
Sara has been married to her husband Kevin for 13 years, and together they have three children: Joanna (9), Julia (7), and Jonathan (5). When she’s not dreaming big for the next generation, she loves spending time outdoors and racing with SCCA in her ‘96 Miata.
Ricka is a pediatric occupational therapist who is passionate about protecting the wonders of early childhood education. Her career has included working in various settings for the past 15 years: hospital-based inpatient and outpatient therapy, hippotherapy programing (use of a therapeutic horse), school-based therapy, and currently works for First Steps of Indiana serving children birth-3 years of age. Her passion for preschoolers led to opening and running a nature-based preschool out of her home and property for the past 4 years. She is excited to launch the Wonder Studio at Spark Christian Academy and play, learn, and grow alongside God’s most precious treasures: His Children!
Ricka and her husband Bryston have been married for almost 14 years and have four wonderful children: Silas (12), Eliza (10), Cecilia (9), and Abram (7). You can find the Cutters on almost every field/court/stage around Southeastern Indiana. Add two Girl Scout Troops into the mix and you get an idea of how busy we can be! In our free time, we love to watch America’s Funny Home Videos and play Yahtzee!
Amber is married to her wonderful husband (Elliot), and a mother to 3 beautiful children (Keara, Camdyn, and Carver).
Amber's background is in ministry. She loves watching people grow in their knowledge of Jesus Christ! They started their homeschool journey in 2022 as their daughter was exhausted at the end of everyday and seemed to enjoy certain things like friends or special classes but dreaded other things. Homeschooling has been a great transition for them but, She is so excited for her kids to be able to attend Spark! It’s the perfect combination and truly what her family needs. She is honored to be able to guide these kids as they learn and grow!
Leeann is a wife to her amazing husband Marty, a mom of two boys (Benny & Isaac), an entrepreneur, and most importantly, a child of God. Her background is in camp ministry where she has served in every position from kitchen help to Camp Director. Her passion is to create experiences where people of all ages and backgrounds encounter the Truth of God’s love and fall deeper in love with Jesus. Sometimes this happens in the woods with a harness and a ropes course and sometimes this happens on a stage in front of thousands of people. God has taken Leeann on quite an adventure and she is stoked to participate in all that God has in store for Spark Christian Academy. She is most excited to guide our heroes in discovering that God created them on purpose and for a purpose (Ephesians 2 & Psalm 139).
Laura lived on both US coasts and in between as a child, then settled into Vanderbilt University for her undergraduate studies in the College of Arts and Science.
After being awarded the highly competitive Walter Wattles Fellowship at Lloyd’s of London, Laura worked in the aviation insurance industry in New York City. Deciding to follow her calling into the world of education, Laura returned to Nashville and earned her Master of Education at Peabody College. This led her to her work at the Oklahoma Arts Institute, creating fine arts education programs for teachers and talented high school students.
Laura married Jeff Sandefer and is the happy mother of Sam and Charlie and step-mother to Taite. It is the inspiration of these children that led Laura and Jeff to co-found Acton Academy. Her greatest hero is her mother who was a Master Teacher. Her wisest mentor is her father who sent her off to college with two words of advice: "Be curious".
Jeff Sandefer lives a dual life as an entrepreneur and a Socratic Guide.
As an entrepreneur, he founded his first company at age 16 and went on to found or co-found seven successful businesses.
As a Socratic teacher at the University of Texas, Jeff’s students five times voted him the school’s Outstanding Teacher and Businessweek named him one of the top Entrepreneurship professors in America. Jeff went on to co-found the Acton School of Business, an MBA program perennially ranked by the Princeton Review among the best in the nation. In 2012 The Economist honored him as one of the top fifteen Business School professors in the world.
Jeff is a graduate of the Harvard Business School, where he served for over twenty years on the school’s governing committees. He was a longtime director of the Philanthropy Roundtable and National Review magazine and one of the youngest members ever elected to the Texas Business Hall of Fame.
